Lange Jahre bliebt die riesige Caldera unentdeckt, obwohl man aufgrund der Hei\u00dfen Quellen und Geysire einen Vulkan in der Gegend vermutete. Erst auf Satelliten-Bildern entdeckte man den flachen Rand der Caldera und erkannte, dass die Hei\u00dfwasserph\u00e4nomene in der Caldera liegen. inzwischen wei\u00df man, dass der Yellowstone einer der gef\u00e4hrlichsten Vulkane der Welt ist und mindesten 3 Supervulkaneruptionen verursachte.
